At Bar Buoy, we’ve always believed that business should be a force for good — not just in what we make, but in what we stand for. That’s why we’re proud to be members of 1% for the Planet, a global movement of businesses committed to donating 1% of annual sales (not just profits) to environmental causes.
Since joining the network, we’ve contributed to a number of amazing environmental organisations — many of them right here on our doorstep in Devon. From Devon Wildlife Trust and Charlie’s Beach School in Exmouth, to Ocean Conservation Trust, Surfers Against Sewage, NurdleCoasts CIC, Seaful, and One Kai, we’ve been privileged to support groups working tirelessly to protect and restore our local coastline, wildlife, and communities.
A Summit with Purpose
This month, we took that commitment one step further by getting involved in the Blue Earth Summit Forum — a gathering of purpose-led brands, environmental leaders, and change-makers. The event was hosted in partnership with 1% for the Planet, and we were proud to donate our cocktails for the drinks reception (because good conversations deserve good drinks).
Bar Buoy co-founder Tim Ball attended the forum, and came away feeling inspired and energised — not least because he had the chance to meet Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. Kate’s passion for driving real, systemic change left a lasting impression… and it turns out, she also enjoyed a Bar Buoy cocktail or two. That definitely made our day.
Why It Matters
Being part of 1% for the Planet isn’t about ticking a sustainability box. It’s about being part of a global movement that’s redefining how businesses give back. It’s about showing that even small companies can have a big impact. And it’s about staying true to our roots — right here on the Devon coast — by supporting the people and projects making a difference in the place we love.
We’re proud of what we’ve contributed so far, and we’re even more excited about what lies ahead. Because whether it’s one percent, one idea, or one shared drink at a summit — it all adds up.
Here’s to people, planet, and purpose. And to raising a can to all three.
